A CIRCUS OF THE EXTRAORDINARY
In low but teasingly gusty winds on day 3 of the DAM-X Event the European Freestyle Pro Tour tried to continue the double elimination of the women with German Johanna Rümenapp and Slovenian Lina Erzen. The long heat was canceled in the end, leaving high hopes for better conditions on the last day of the event to finish the EFPT finals here in Brouwersdam.
However, that didn’t stop DAM-X from delivering lots of action for all windsurfers and visitors.
Despite the low wind, we saw 160 windsurfers from seven different countries skimming the water in this year’s slalom Fun Race. Divided into a pro group of 25 and an amateur group of 135 riders, one and a half rounds could be finished in the race that will continue on Sunday.
In the afternoon an incredible freestyle tow-in followed up a competition in Austria earlier this year. Ten riders were towed towards the beach to perform in front of the cheering crowds for the 1.000 Euro price money that was up for grabs. The French guys Julien Mas and Sam Esteve added even more fun to the show by wearing full moose and dog body costumes, which however did not get them a place on the podium. Vice world champ Amado Vrieswijk claimed victory over Francesco Cappuzzo in second and Yentel Caers in third place.
It was a day packed with fun activities for everybody, from flyboarding and water zorbing to SUP Polo and a massive water slide here in Brouwersdam.
Later in the evening the restaurant of the Zeil- en Surfcentrum was transformed into a pumping club, hosting the legendary Saturday night DAM-X party. Let’s see how many party people will be walking around with sunglasses all day on Sunday, the last day of the event.
